Do you dream of seeing more curvy models on the catwalk? One fashion blogger, Remi Ray, has decided to take the matter into her own hands, with the help of Evolve Magazine. Remi, 25, turned this dream into reality by creating the First Official British Plus Size Fashion Weekend, which runs 15-16th February in Shoreditch. It aims to not only promote plus-size designers but to ‘educate empower enhance and support’ the industry and its consumers.
Originally titled the London Plus- Size Fashion Weekend, the event had to change its name which raised a few eyebrows, but Rianne Ward (co-host) explains:
“We had to change the name to the British Plus- Size Fashion Weekend due to the London Fashion Week receiving so many enquiries relating to the plus size fashion weekend. They asked us if we would mind changing the name slightly to stop the confusion, which we were happy to do. The team behind the Vodafone London Fashion Week support the event and have wished us luck with it as we are all ultimately trying to do the same thing, which is highlight some amazing fashion designers and bring together people who love clothes”
The event, which falls in the middle of London Fashion Week, was timed perfectly to raise the status of the event. Although, the two events are not officially connected, Remi and Rianne hope that the timing will help raise the status of plus-size fashion.
