All Walks and Rankin

SNAPPED: Part Two, Feb 2011

Working with the biggest names in British fashion from Vivienne Westwood, to Giles Deacon and Stella McCartney, we commissioned international photographer, Rankin to create nine new diverse, All Walks portraits showing a look from Spring Summer 2011 (All the designers showcased their sample looks and worked individually with the model to create a bespoke fit for each unique body shape.)

Is the message and the excitement of fashion diminished or enhanced by seeing it brought to life on a range of bodies? You decide.

 

 

National Portrait Gallery presents SNAPPED

These portraits were shown at the National Portrait Gallery in February 2011 to a record audience for the evening of 4000 people. The attraction? INDIVIDUALITY: We created our own trail through the gallery placing our portraits next to women in the gallery who we felt mirrored some of the qualities our All Walks models were projecting.

During the evening, we asked everyone to consider: Is Fashion the lens through which we now view Identity?

With a packed evening of debate, life drawing, i-D Pop up studio, DJ’s and soundscapes provided by everyone from Vivienne Westwood, to models and industry practitioners, our guest’s dressed up and partied and thought about the power of fashion imagery to promote positive messages to women and men about their bodies.

 

“I wholly admire and support the endeavours of the All Walks Beyond the Catwalk campaign. As a photographer, I am constantly confronted by perceived ideals of beauty. The models, actors, musicians, and ‘real’ people who I see down my lens are all influenced by an oppressive world of unattainable physical goals. I always work hard to break through the artifice and capture something unique, original and beautiful in each of my subjects. Interest and creativity is not about perfection but quite the opposite; beauty comes from our idiosyncrasies.”
